Sparta, North Carolina (February 7, 2001) – Blue Ridge Energies, a subsidiary company of Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation, is now offering propane gas service to residential and business customers in the town of Sparta, along the corridor of Hwy. 18 from Laurel Springs to Sparta, as well as the corridor of Hwy. 221.

Customer service and sales for Blue Ridge Energies is available at the Alleghany office of Blue Ridge Electric, located at 304 South Main Street in Sparta.

Blue Ridge Energies was formed as a subsidiary of Blue Ridge Electric in 1998 to offer diversified energy products and services. In October of that year, Blue Ridge Energies purchased the former Beall Oil and Propane companies, which originated in Caldwell County in the early 1950s and provided heating fuels, propane and commercial gasoline.

Today, Blue Ridge Energies is a fast growing company that has expanded to include operations in Caldwell, Burke, Watauga, Ashe, and Alleghany counties.

Initially, Sparta propane customers will be provided delivery service from the Ashe office of Blue Ridge Energies. The Ashe propane staff includes Mike Bledsoe, operations manager, Scott Jordan, service technician, Mark Parsons, sales and delivery representative, and Chris Cox, service technician.

“I am very excited that Blue Ridge Energies is now beginning to provide propane service to Sparta,” said Doug Johnson, chairman of Blue Ridge Energies and chief executive office of the cooperative. “Our company offers years of local experience and training, and our people will provide excellent customer care.

“We’ve had many people ask when they would be able to do business with Blue Ridge Energies in the Sparta area, so we’re extremely pleased that we’re now beginning to offer an expanded line of energy products to meet the needs of local residents and businesses,” added Johnson. “Over time, we plan to expand Blue Ridge Energies in Sparta to a full service operation for Alleghany County,” he added

Customers can contact Blue Ridge Energies in Sparta at (336) 372-1742.
