Lenoir, North Carolina (December 13, 2000) – The Muscular Dystrophy Association has received a $15,000 contribution as a result of a charity golf tournament recently sponsored by Blue Ridge Energies and Holiday Foods at Cedar Rock Country Club. Citgo, Pepsi Cola and Moore’s Quality Chips were co-sponsors of the tournament.
For the ninth consecutive year, Bob Hauss, special projects coordinator for Blue Ridge Energies, coordinated the tournament. Assisting Hauss were Jim Crump, vice president of BCW and general manager of Holiday Foods, and Cathy Brown, supervisor of Holiday Foods. Hauss also credited a number of employees from Blue Ridge Energies and Holiday Foods who helped make the tournament a success.
The Captain’s Choice tournament had 104 players, including representation from area companies and businesses.
“I appreciate the support of all who participated as players, hole sponsors, or who made donations or supported the charity tournament in any way,” said Hauss. “This event is always a great time for everyone and we have a lot of very good players participate, but the real focus is on raising funds for a very worthy organization,” he added. “I’m so excited that we were able to send this amount of money to
MDA.”
Over the years, the local tournament coordinated by Hauss has raised approximately $150,000 for MDA.
Blue Ridge Energies is a subsidiary of Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation offering propane, heating fuels, and commercial gasoline as well as heating appliances and hearth products from offices in Lenoir, Morganton, Boone and West Jefferson.
