Tips for members conducting the audit for homes located in the Blue Ridge service area: The model calculates energy usage for home heating and cooling from actual weather data from over 200 weather locations around the United States. The actual weather site used for the calculation is determined by the zip code the homeowner enters. Due to Northwestern North Carolina’s unique climate resulting from elevation changes over the service area, we recommend you use the following location zip codes and corresponding weather location records to obtain more accurate heating / cooling cost calculations.

For the foothills: (Most of Caldwell and Wilkes counties) enter you local zip code. This will reference Greensboro, NC weather records.

For Elevations 1500’ to 3000’: Use zip code 28801. This will reference Asheville, NC weather records.

For Elevations Above 3000’: Members in Northwestern, North Carolina who experience the most severe winter weather should use zip code 26241. This will reference Elkins, West Virginia weather records.

Energy Pricing to enter into the model: The model uses “default” energy pricing or users can enter specific pricing if they choose. Winter 2005 Pricing for the Blue Ridge service area:

Electricity: Ranges from 7 cents to 9 cents per kwh depending
on the rate schedule, time of year and usage level.

Propane: $1.90 to $2.25 per gallon

Fuel Oil: $2.75 to $2.85 per gallon

     K-1: $3.40 to $3.50 per gallon

Due to assumptions made, the level of detail provided and unique operating conditions; usage calculations may or may not reflect costs or savings for your particular situation and are intended as guidelines only. (Terms and Conditions)
